ABOUT ME
Empowerment Speaker, Mentorship Advocate, and Self-Proclaimed Student Leadership Enthusiast are just a few attributes that can be used to describe Scottie Willis. A proud native and resident of Jackson Mississippi, Willis currently serves as a Director of Upward Bound Math & Science at Hinds Community College.
​A proud graduate of Terry high school, Willis holds an Associate of Arts Degree in History from Hinds Community College, a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in Social Science and Education from Delta State University, and a Master's of Science degree in Leadership from Belhaven University. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Higher Education at Jackson State University.
​During his undergraduate career, Willis took on many leadership roles such as serving on the President's Leadership Council, President of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, and Founder of the Something Different to See Minority Male Mentorship Program. Before graduation, he was also elected Mr. Delta State University and received the university's highest honor by being inducted into the Student Hall of Fame in May of 2016. It is pretty simple to see where Willis' passion for student leadership stemmed, but he had no idea the places it would take him.
Professionally Willis established The Blue STREAK freshman mentorship program which centers around the academic, social, and professional development of incoming students. He also helped to bring the Men of Excellence program to the campus of Jackson State University which gave them the distinction of being the first HBCU in the state of Mississippi to offer the program. Their inaugural class inducted 116 students.
Willis now travels the country speaking to students about The Cost Leadership, Goal Setting, Being a Servant, Navigating Transitions, and other empowerment topics. He often tells students, "God has allowed me to do some amazing things and meet some equally amazing people, but all of that means nothing if I don't use what He has given me to push the next Goal Assassin to greatness!"
